The emergency textline is NOT meant to be used for:
– Scheduling or cancelling routine dental appointments

Emergency Textline

Cut or Bitten Mouth: Apply wrapped ice to the bruised area. If bleeding, apply gentle pressure with clean gauze or cloth. If bleeding doesn’t stop after 10-15 minutes, or if it’s heavy and can’t be controlled by pressure, go to the nearest emergency room or urgent care centre.

Permanent Tooth Knocked Out: Quickly locate the tooth and pick it up carefully, touching the crown (top) and not the root if possible. Rinse the tooth if needed, but don’t clean or handle it unnecessarily. If the tooth is whole (not broken or cracked), gently reinsert it in its socket. Hold the tooth in place by biting down on clean gauze or cloth. If you can’t reinsert it, transport it in a cup of milk or water. This helps keep the root alive until you can see us. Timeliness is crucial to help save the tooth!

Broken Tooth: Rinse dirt or debris from the injured area with clean, warm water. Place a cold compress over the injured area of the face. Find and save any pieces of your broken tooth that you can. Visit us immediately.

Toothache or Sore Gums: Thoroughly clean around the sore area. Rinse by swishing warm salt water and/or try to dislodge trapped food or debris with dental floss. Don’t put aspirin directly on teeth or gums, but do take an over-the-counter pain reliever like ibuprofen to help ease the pain until you can see us. If your face is swollen, apply a cold compress or a bag of frozen peas.

Possible Broken Jaw: Try to keep the jaw from moving by using a towel, tie, or handkerchief. Get to the nearest emergency room or urgent care centre.

Bleeding After Baby Tooth Falls Out: Have the child bite down on clean, folded gauze or cloth over the bleeding area for 15 minutes. Repeat once if necessary, but call us if the bleeding continues.

Cold Sores / Canker Sores: Usually over-the-counter preparations bring relief until the sores heal. Because some serious diseases can begin as sores, let us know if the sores worsen and/or persist.

Our entire team of dentists are nearby and only a text away to walk you through your emergency until you can be seen at our office. No one wants to break a tooth or suffer a fall, but it happens. And the one thing you can count on if it does: we will be there for you.

“My 4-year-old was hit in the face tonight and I was hoping she could be seen tomorrow. One tooth was loose and she damaged the gums over her teeth. A dentist responded over the emergency hotline and booked her in with their pediatric specialist. I can’t tell you how much I appreciated being able to speak to someone about this outside of office hours.”

“My 9-year-old daughter broke her front adult tooth and was in excruciating pain. A dentist texted me back within half an hour, booked her for the first thing the next morning, and gave me advice on how to take care of the area until her appointment.”

“My son got his tooth capped last year and has been complaining on and off for the last few weeks about pain. It got worse last night and I had to give medication to get him to sleep. I sent a message to the emergency text message hotline and a dentist called me within a few hours.”

“I was playing hockey and got a stick to my mouth. I texted the emergency hotline and a dentist responded right away. They booked me an appointment the very next day and offered to give me a prescription to get me out of pain until my appointment”.
